Last Tuesday we gathered at the Textile & Fashion Hub with a group of industry professionals and a sold-out room of guests to break down the realities of implementing sustainable practices in the fashion and textile sector. The evening began with Made In Green and MySTeP being outlined in detail by Testex's, Marc Sidler, visiting from Zurich.
Made in Green by OEKO-TEX® is an independent textile label for highlighting consumer products and semi-finished products at all levels of the textile chain, that are made from materials tested for harmful substances and that have been manufactured by using environmentally friendly processes and under safe and socially responsible working conditions.
MySTeP by OEKO-TEX® is a database strengthening your textile supply community. The database can be accessed worldwide from any location. As the central database of OEKO-TEX®, MySTeP offers a number of services to registered partners, such as:
- A customised supply chain mapping system for brands, retailers, and manufacturers in the textile chain
- The OEKO-TEX® certification management tool for OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 and STeP by OEKO-TEX®
- Targeted analysis based on scoring of STeP certified companies
- Benchmarking and statistical analysis of the supply chain
These offerings are another next step in the movement toward greater social and environmental outcomes in the fashion and textile industry, and so great to see their gradual adoption internationally.
Of course there are many ways businesses can work toward a smaller social and environmental impact and following the information session, we welcomed our panelists to the floor to talk all things Sustainability. The discussion that unfolded was open and relaxed, outlining the realities of implementing more sustainable practices into established business, and also the approach of setting up new businesses with minimal impacts from the get go.
As pictured above, our panel included:
It was fantastic to have representatives from a cross-section of the industry contributing to such an open and honest conversation. Even better to hear all of the genuine efforts and initiatives that are being implemented across the the sector.
We're looking forward to following the journey of each of these initiatives and brands!
